What is Hypnotherapy and How Does it Work?

Hypnotherapy is a form of complementary therapy that utilizes the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to thoughts, feelings and behavior. The heightened state of awareness of the subconscious mind whilst in a hypnotic state of relaxation allows the therapist to make appropriate suggestions to achieve the desired changes.

Who can benefit from Hypnotherapy?

The simple answer is that anyone who wishes to make changes in their life can benefit from hypnotherapy.

Can anyone be Hypnotised?

For the majority of the population, hypnosis is possible, however there are some people who may have difficulty in achieving a hypnotic state for example if they are under the influence of heavy narcotics or have sustained some physical brain damage or suffer with some psychotic conditions. The most important thing to remember is that if you choose hypnotherapy treatment you must be fully committed to the process and feel that you can place your trust in your hypnotherapist.

Is Hypnotherapy Suitable for Children?

Children and teenagers are generally extremely receptive to hypnosis. They have very vivid imaginations, which makes it easier to access the unconscious mind and bring about the desired changes.

Will I be Aware of What’s Happening While I am in a Hypnotic State?

We are actually hyper-aware of what is going on around us whilst in the hypnotic state and can stop the process at any time.

Can I be Hypnotised Against My Will?

You can only be hypnotized if you are willing to be. Hypnosis is simply the most effective tool for accessing our vast internal capability in order to easily make the positive changes we want to make to our lives.

Can I be Made to Do Something Foolish or Against My will Whilst in Hypnosis?

Nobody can make you do anything you do not want to do, as your subconscious mind will simply reject any suggestion that is inappropriate for you. In cases of stage hypnosis, where the hypnotist has given an entertaining suggestion to audience members, they comply because they are willing to pretend to be a chicken, for example, just for the fun of it!

Can I be Trapped in a Hypnotic Trance?

No. If you were inducted into a hypnotic state and the hypnotist left you alone, you would eventually just emerge from the trance like state on your own, much the same as you would emerge or wake from a nap.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions that it will take for you to get the outcome you want, very much depends on your personal circumstances. However, although sometimes the required changes can be made after just one session – it is a good idea to budget for two and for weight reduction, three tends to have the best results
